Spinal Decompression Treatment at Ironwood Chiropractic
Our experienced Richmond, BC chiropractor may recommend a treatment called spinal decompression. Dr. Michael Gagnon at Ironwood Clinic will determine if you need this treatment after a thorough consultation and examination. If you are wondering exactly what to expect if he advises spinal decompression, here are some injuries it is effective for and how the process works.
Conditions Spinal Decompression is Used to Treat
Spinal decompression is one of many forms of chiropractic care that we use at our clinic. However, it is most often recommended for patients with conditions such as:
- Herniated Discs
- Bulging Discs
- Pinched Nerves
- Headaches & Migraines
- Facet Syndrome
- Radiating Arm Pain
Dr. Gagnon will let you know if this therapy will be effective in treating your current condition during your appointment.
How Spinal Decompression Works
Our Richmond, BC chiropractor will gently lie you on a table face up. Padded straps will be snuggly tightened across your lower chest and waist. The neck is supported by soft pads and the procedure will begin.
A special computerized system will operate the table in such a way that your spine is slowly stretched in 30-second increments until the full pull is reached. The machine will then incrementally drop down the pull to normalcy and follow the same stretching procedure. This lasts for about 12 to 15 minutes in all.
Why Spinal Decompression is Effective
While not everyone will get the results they seek, most patients do. This back and forth pumping action serves two primary purposes that can benefit many conditions.
1. When the table slowly stretches the spine, it creates a vacuum effect within the targeted discs. The vacuum helps suck out herniations and bulges in discs which alleviates the pressure off impinged nerve roots that source pain. After several treatments, many see remarkable results.
2. The next benefit of these treatments from our chiropractor is that the pumping action helps push nutrient-rich fluids inside the disc where the ‘aching’ fluid was. These nutrients assist in the healing of degenerated or torn discs as healing occurs in the disc’s fibers.
It was once thought that repairing degeneration in discs was impossible, but this remarkable process makes it a very real possibility with chiropractic care!
